The Start: Here We Go.
I have some lofty goals running my first ecommerce biz, let's lay out what we've got and how I plan to run the business and share everything.
This has been longtime in the making, I decided last November to start my own ecommerce business, one option I discovered was buying an existing business.
What happened (The detailed version)
I googled “ecommerce businesses for sale”. Yup, that’s how basic I am.
I came across https://exchangemarketplace.com/, which is a Shopify Marketplace for selling and buying Shopify businesses. I browsed, a lot. My typical reddit browsing had to take a back seat.
I eventually came across the staff picks section, and one business stuck out, https://thecopperpotco.com
After more research, I setup a call to discuss the business with the owner, Dustin.
A few days later, we chatted, I like both what he has started and his reasons for selling the company, basically, it was fun for him, his career had pivoted with covid, selling the business would recoup some costs, time and let him move on.
We agreed on the purchase, I submitted funds from my bank account (gulp!) and the transition process began. the funds are held in escrow until both the buyer and seller have confirmed all the assets have been transferred.
As of end of December, the store and assets were officially mine.
Here’s What We’re Starting With
The Shopify Store and domain thecopperpotco.com
Original brand assets (logo, product photos, marketing assets).
Facebook Page - I dislike Facebook business tools, so confusing.
Google GSuite (Business Page, Gmail)
Existing supplier in Mexico, a family run business. More about this in my next post.
About $1700 of unsold product.
Some 5 star reviews on google. It’s a start!
The support of Dustin. Honestly, so many things to learn and remember. Dustin has been awesome.
So What First?
Honestly, with ShipHero madness (all good problems to have) and personal anxiety with the state of our politics, I’ve been in a state of what to do first.
Now that I’m getting some time to focus, I’m going to start on the obvious in my head - it’s the products! I’m going to share on my next update the products being sold and how they performed, what I received, the supplier, and what I plan to do moving forward looking at what I think would sell and what should be removed.
Finally, I have a sincere thank you for your support. I’ve received many messages encouraging this what I hope will be an immensely educational and entertaining journey. I’m a lucky bar-steward for knowing some very good humans, this means you - thank you for being patient and your support :)
Cheers
